Rates

Sewer bills are based on the amount of water used during any month.  Washington Township Water provides monthly water usage for our customers; usage is multiplied by the rate per 1000 gallons  and bills are prepared.  Due to the time required to prepare the data, sewer billings lag water use by one month.  For example, if you use 2000 gallons of water in June the bill you receive from the Water Corp in July will reflect that 2000 gallons use.  The sewer bill you receive in August will be based on this same usage.

Rates are established by ordinance and published in the newspaper.  A public comment period is allowed for members of the public to express opinions at a date and time published with the proposed rate schedule.

Our current rates, adopted by Ordinance No. 1-2023, define the following categories of user:

  • Residential
  • Commercial
  • Institutional
  • Industrial
  • Governmental
  • Public Schools

The rates are the same for all categories of users and consist of two parts:

  • Operations, Maintenance & Repair charge of $5.22 per 1000 gallons of water used.
  • Debt Service – Capital Cost Recovery Rate of $6.28 per thousand gallons used

Rates are based on a minimum usage of 2000 gallons per month and a 5/8″ meter; charges are based on actual usage if usage exceeds 2000 gallons per month. The minimum bill is calculated at $5.22 + $6.28 = $11.50 $11.50×2=$23.00

Sewer service for non-metered users is based on an average of 5,000 gallons per month of water usage, so the minimum bill is $11.50 x $57.50
